I do not think endless hours in front of a television is healthy for any child. However, I recognize that a limited tv time can be very helpful to both adults and children. One of my personal favorites for teaching early reading skills is The Letter Factory: https://amzn.to/4vfiBLp. I am comfortable pressing play and grabbing a few minutes to myself. It is fun and engaging with the bonus of teaching letter sounds and contains nothing offensive to most people.
When the kids were quite little, each Sunday morning while my husband and I dressed for church, we played the old animated Paddington series: https://amzn.to/4sVqgN8.
The girls enjoyed watching, and we enjoyed listening. The episodes never get old, because they are so cute and funny!
Another favorite is Shawn the Sheep: https://amzn.to/4sfdCrf. I really like that it has few if any words. The humor is almost entirely from mischievous animals.
