Who knew keeping chickens could be a hobby? Not me. My husband and I joined the homesteading/prepper craze in a limited way after the 2020 crisis. When our family decided to raise chickens, we entered a whole new world of chicken hobbyists! Not only did we have no idea how much fun chickens could be, but we also did not know how many people really, really like their chickens.

We quickly joined this group of fanatics -lol! My daughters all enjoy wearing chicken themed T-shirts, my cellphone photo album is overflowing with chicken photos, and we have acquired various household chicken themed items.

The most useful chicken item that we own would be my countertop egg tray. It is very handy for storing lots of fresh eggs until we use them. Also, we own an adorable salt and pepper shaker set shaped like eggs that gets many compliments from house guests!

Another one of our homestead/prepper investments was our wood burning stove. And, keeping with our topic, we purchased a cast iron chicken humidifier to adorn the top of our stove. Although we do use it, it’s more ornamental than practical. The wood stove creates an extremely dry heat. We need more than that little humidifier to keep moisture in the house on cold winter days.
