Could you use some marriage tips? No matter where you are in your marriage, whether it has existed for a very short or for a long time, these three tips would be a great help to your relationship. In fact, I believe these tips could be helpful to many difficult kinds of relationships.

#1 Pray Together, Out Loud

Early in our relationship, my husband and I began praying together. I felt uncomfortable at first. Sometimes I still do. However, I know my husband loves hearing me pray, and I love hearing him pray!

This tip may sound charismatic or too spiritual for you. Maybe it even sounds a little scary. Be brave and ask your spouse to pray with you. The health of your marriage is worth a little discomfort.

Asking for pray is humbling. Humility can be a great way to build up a relationship. Listening to your spouse pray gives you insight into their heart in a unique way. When you pray out loud with someone, you are being vulnerable. Vulnerability can build trust and intimacy.

There are so many opportunities for prayer. Pray before meals. Pray before bed. Pray as a family.

Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV)

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

#2 Compliment or Thank Your Spouse

My marriage can be easily rekindled by this tip. We both feel encouraged when given a compliment or thanked for service. It often gives us energy to help us through our day.

I’m not talking about flattery. I’m talking about genuine gratitude for something that they do. It may be difficult if your relationship is strained -especially if there is not a lot that you are thankful about concerning them at the moment. Think hard. You should be able to come up with at least something small. Speak up and let them know that you appreciate whatever it is -no matter how small. The goal isn’t to manipulate. Rather, to heal and/or strengthen your relationship.

Thank them for providing, serving, or thinking of an idea. Going to work, doing a chore, driving, getting gas…

Perhaps you like their shirt or hair. Nothing is too small to show a thankful attitude.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

#3 Serve Them

My husband and I serve each other in so many ways. Many ways we serve seem ordinary, but imagining my life without the help of my husband is difficult. I am so thankful for his service to me and my family.

You may already serve your spouse in a number of ways. Try to do it with a joyful heart. Try to go the extra mile. If this seems too much, start with something small.

Don’t mention the annoying thing they do if it’s not helpful. Do a simple chore that needs doing without being asked. Give them an unexpected gift or kiss.

 Galatians 6:2 (ESV)

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

These tips may sound too simple, or perhaps they sound way too hard! I challenge you to try one, two or all three of them out. It would be so wonderful if they were a help to your marriage!

If you would like me and my husband to pray for your marriage, please send me a message. Your relationship doesn’t have to be in trouble to benefit from prayer. So, whether your marriage is going well or not, we will pray for you!
