It has been a while… I know that a new blog post was long overdue. I have a confession to make.
Truth be told, I’ve been a little discouraged with my blogging efforts. I’ve also been enjoying the last few days of summer break. For the first time, as a homeschool mom, I am not looking forward to the school year.
I usually love getting back to the routine and structure that the new school year brings. In years past, I have tended to feel exhausted by the freedom and flexibility a of lazy summer days. However, I think with my children growing older, I am definitely noticing a change in my attitude.
It was always my dream to be a mom one day. BUT, in my dream, the children were little. They didn’t grow up. Anyone else relate? Perhaps you are looking forward to when you do, lol!

I was fairly confident as a mom of young children. Parenting as a unite, along side of my husband, is a topic for another post. That was harder for me.
I always loved caring for babies and young children for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my mom homeschooled us and babysat a few children to supplement my dad’s income. I enjoyed helping her to change diapers, play, and care for these children. I myself babysat for other people even before I got my driver’s license. I worked at a ritzy childcare center after I graduated from college and then became a nanny until, and for a while after, I got married.
When we had our own children, I was excited about teaching them school at home. I enjoyed the challenge of teaching my first child while entertaining my second. Then teaching my first and second while caring for my third child. It was exhausting, but I felt confident and enjoyed these early years.
Now my children are growing older -as tends to happen with children! My youngest is learning most things independently now. My oldest is learning many things that I’ve forgotten or never learned myself before. It’s a bit scary!

I am so thankful for the internet and the incredible amount of homeschool resources that are available to us in 2026. However, no matter what resources are at our disposal, we, as parents, are still responsible for knowing what our children are learning. This responsibility is huge!
The curriculum is one concern. It will certainly be hard work. Of greater concern, to me, however, is the heart work. I am not looking forward to the challenge of correcting wrong attitudes and encouraging good attitudes -my own included. This is the more difficult and more important task!
I am tempted to feel overwhelmed this homeschool year. However, I know that God created work before the curse and that it is good! I am sad that sin makes the work harder. I am so very thankful that He helps us, and that we do not do any good work alone!

The Bible is full of verses that remind us of His faithfulness. This one is a favorite: “He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24) Do you have a favorite verse of encouragement?
Are you looking forward to this school year? I would enjoy hearing from you. Please comment and join my email list to read my new blog posts.
